An Other's Piano
36 Years later…I’m in Germany playing a duet with my sons’ fathers’ father! Living in Germany, then Denmark for less than two years, I only had a piano at my disposal for 6 months in Berlin. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of that piano because it was a lovely old upright, with candle holders on each side of the music holder.
Prior to going to Germany/Denmark, I used pianos in the practice rooms of University of Maryland and Michigan State University. Of course, these were sad pianos, but pianos nevertheless. My cats purred on my lap as I practiced in practice room at another school close to where I lived in Maryland.
While at the University of Maryland, I almost changed my major in my junior year to music, after having a successful year taking applied piano. Listening to another who reminded me of how much more time it would take to change majors, I decided that the additional loans and time weren’t justifiable. What a different life I would have had.
